I recently visited The Scholar for their Yum Cha lunch, and it was an incredible experience. The food was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The Lo Mai Gai (Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaf) stood out with its fragrant aroma and perfectly cooked rice, while the Siu Mai and Har Gow were classic dim sum dishes done just right—juicy, tender, and full of flavor. The Chicken Feet and Braised Beef Tendons were rich and comforting, and the Steamed BBQ Pork Buns were soft, fluffy, and filled with sweet, tender pork. To top it all off, the Hong Kong-Style Mango Pudding was a perfect way to end the meal—smooth, creamy, and bursting with real mango flavor. The service was friendly and efficient, with staff bringing around trolleys filled with steaming dishes. They were helpful in recommending items and answering questions, which made trying new dishes easy and enjoyable. It did get a little slower during peak hours, but the staff’s attentiveness and warmth more than made up for it.

Back here after a few years and had reunion dinner with close friends. There is now a young guy who speaks well and with courtesy, so this time no complaint about the otherwise rude staff Food was excellent, dishes cane out one by one 15 minutes after we ordered. It wax a quiet evening, only 6 other tables were occupied. But this suited my group ad we were catching up after a long while. My favourite was the crab with vermicelli, pipis XO sauce & butter prawns. We also had other dishes but i couldn’t take pics as my fingers were busy with the crab . Water spinach (kangkung) with fermented bean was an unexpected delight. Rare to get this dish. All in all, memorable evening with friends and great food.

I thought the staff were all lovely. Yumcha here is always different due to change in chefs, but this time I thought yumcha was very decent and I had freshly baked egg tarts! :) Highly recommend the Prawn Rice Noodles and also Vegetarian Rice Noodles

Above average Yum Cha… Whilst the food is good, the service can be very hit and miss each time we visit. They are missing some great Yum Cha classics like mango pancakes etc The “fried lobster dumplings” are pretty good One of only two decent yum Cha Joints in Canberra
